Hello everyone. I wanted to share a few photo’s from my recent trip to the beautiful island of Burano, Italy.
I hadn’t heard of this island until my recent visit to Venice, where I stumbled across a leaflet advertising boat trips to it.
To get to Burano, we took a boat from just by St Mark’s Square which took 40 minutes. (I vlogged this day trip if you fancy a watch, the video is below) You can also get off at the island of Murano, which is famous for it’s glass. But we decided to just stick with Burano. I was keen to see all of the colourful houses and get some shots for my Instagram.
The small houses on the island are all brightly painted in different colours. It’s said that originally the fisherman painted their houses like this so they could spot them when out at sea. I think the owner of this house couldn’t make up their mind what colour to paint it, so opted for all of the colours. Like Venice the island has canals running right the way through it, and the colourful houses reflect in the water. The turquoise house behind me in this photo is named the ‘Tiffany’ house, after the jewellery brand. As well as the brightly painted houses, for all of the photo opportunities, there’s also a lace museum (Burano is famous for it’s lace making) and plenty of shops and nice places to eat. I’d definitely recommend a day trip there if you ever visit Venice!
Here is the vlog so you can have a look around with me 🙂 Thanks for reading.
