Colouring for Grown-ups

I can’t remember the last time I coloured something in.

It would most likely have been at school! Over the past couple of years colouring books for grown-ups have exploded in the shops and on Instagram, so I thought I’d give it a go myself! The books I’ve chosen are called ‘The Art of Mindfulness’ and there are 4 different kinds, each with intricate illustrations to colour in.*

I chose ‘Happy and Energised’ to start with.

I have to admit, at first it just reminded me of being at school. It bought back memories of a lad who was really good at colouring in and got extra marks for it (!) and also memories of having to do it as homework… not fun.

But, as these thoughts passed by, I noticed that 30 minutes later I wasn’t thinking about anything. I was just concentrating on process of colouring in sections, and selecting colours. I suppose this is where the ‘mindfulness’ comes in to play. I’ve tried to practice this in the past, and I feel that doing a simple activity that you can focus on can really help.

I‘d definately recommend trying this to anyone who’s feeling busy, anxious or stressed and needs to break away from their thoughts!

I’ve enjoyed being able to do something creative, without having that feeling of not knowing where to start. And being creative sparks creativity – it’s freed up my mind to inspire new ideas, and it’s great to be back on my blog!

The books are by Michael O’Mara Books and you can pick them up on Amazon for £7.99.
