WEST BAY / BROADCHURCH

I’ve just got back from a week away in Devon with my family. This is a perfect time of year to visit, and it’s become an annual thing for us. We always stay in Branscombe.

This year I really wanted to visit West Bay in Dorset, which is now famous for being the location for the ITV drama ‘Broadchurch’. If you haven’t watched the series, I won’t give anything away – but it’s a gripping murder mystery that always ends with a massive cliff hanger! Being late to the party I watched all 10 episodes in a couple of days because I was totally hooked. As well as being a brilliant story, the cinamatography in it is stunning and really shows off this part of England so I’d definitely recommend giving it a watch, and visiting West Bay if you are ever in this part of the UK. Don’t expect to see the Broadchurch high street though, as that is situated 70 miles away in Clevedon, North Somerset!

Does anyone else love visiting places they’ve seen on TV or in movies or is it just me? I find it fascinating.

Harbour Cliff Beach – East Beach

My sister wasn’t expecting the tide to come up so fast!

Broadchurch Sea Brigade Hall – (Methodist Chapel on East Beach)

DI Alec Hardy’s Residence – Blue Chalet at Riverside by the River Brit

If you visit West Bay, I’d recommend you drop into the Tourist information centre where they have a map of all the filming locations (or this website that lists them all) and I’d also recommend walking up the cliff path to the west of the harbour for amazing views and visiting the vintage market situated by the seafront.

Now I’m really excited for Broadchurch series 3!

Other towns / beaches in this area I’d recommend visiting:

Lyme Regis

Sidmouth

Budleigh Salterton
