WINTER WELLNESS | HOW I STAY FIT & HEALTHY DURING WINTER

Hi everyone,

Now the clocks have changed and it feels like it’s getting dark at 2pm I thought I’d share with you a few things I’ve been doing to stay fit and healthy both physically and mentally as the seasons change and we head into Winter.

Outfit: BooHooMan (Aff / Gifted)

  1. Lemon water. Every morning I squeeze the juice of one lemon into a mug and fill it up with water. You can make this with hot water put I prefer to have cold (I have a coffee along side it). This is a great dose of Vitamin C. While we are on the subject of water, I’ve been forgetting to drink it with the weather being colder so I’ve made a conscious effort to fill up my water bottle and keep it with me at all times to drink from through out the day.
  2. Porridge. This is such a cheap and easy breakfast and perfect for winter. It really fills you up and I find I’m less likely to want to eat stodge for lunch if I have this in the morning. I make it by putting in 1 cup of porridge oats into a bowl, adding a splash of half milk, half water until the oats are covered and then 1 minute in the microwave. I add some zero calorie coffee syrup I got in Homesense which is a game changer!
  3. Working out. I’ve been neglecting my fitness recently due to the amount of content I’m working on and rushing around here there and everywhere. To ensure I do *something* I’ve been doing a 5 minute workout most mornings which is easy to fit in and gets results. I did it in a recent vlog but essentially it consists of: 1 minute push ups, 1 minute mountain climbers, 1 minute squats, 1 minute lunges, 30 seconds star jumps and 30 seconds high knees. You can use some dumbbells when you do the squats and lunges if you want to add some weights into the mix.
  4. Going to bed earlier. I am such a night owl but at this time of year I’m struggling to stay awake at 8pm. Rather than battle it I’m going to bed earlier (after a bath – I’m loving baths now we are into Autumn) and getting up earlier as a result.
  5. Flu jab. I haven’t had this yet but it’s on my list of things to do next week. I got it done last year and touch wood it worked. I’ve already noticed a lot of people coughing and sneezing when I’ve been out and about so the trusty Vicks first defence will be back in my backpack too. I actually did a video on how to avoid a cold a couple of years ago if you fancy a watch!  You can book a flu jab at Boots for £12.99
  6. Getting enough daylight. I think I am definitely effected by s.a.d – In recent years it’s not so much mentally although I can feel a bit more anxious as the season change, but I’ve just felt really tired which can in turn lead to feeling a bit low. I make sure I get outside, especially when the sun comes out, and in the evenings I switch on my soft box filming lamps when I’m working and I find that helps too.

I’d love to hear your tips for staying fit and healthy over winter, so feel to comment or you can always catch me over on Instagram.
